This tour will lead us from Belgrade to the charming town of Topola, nestled in the renowned Šumadija region of Central Serbia. Along the way, we’ll traverse picturesque countryside roads, offering scenic views of the Avala and Kosmaj mountains, as well as vast crop fields and orchards. Upon reaching Topola, we’ll visit the iconic Church of Saint George, commissioned by King Peter I as the mausoleum for the Karađorđević Royal family. Surrounded by a serene oak forest, the church boasts an impressive mosaic interior covering 3570 square meters, with over 40 million mosaic pieces crafted in Murano, Italy, depicting compositions from 60 Serbian monasteries across the Balkans. Here lie the resting places of five official state leaders of Serbia and Yugoslavia, along with 24 close members of the Royal family. Our journey continues to the Royal Winery, where we’ll learn about wine production techniques dating back to the 1930s, and explore the underground cellar that once stored tons of Royal wine. To conclude, we’ll savor a delightful dinner at a traditional restaurant.
